Charles John Zemek Jr, 91, of Storrs passed away peacefully on January 13th. He was born to Charles Zemek Sr and Teresa (Bartek) Zemek on April 13th, 1930, in Stafford Springs. He leaves behind his son Roger Zemek of Storrs and his girlfriend Kimberly Todd of Storrs, his grandson Nicholas Zemek of Storrs, his brother Thomas Zemek and his wife Shirley of Merrow, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Zemek and his son Gary Zemek. Charles served in the Marines from 1948-1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War, eventually becoming a Sargent with VMF-322. After serving his country, he worked at UConn at the Agronomy Research Farm for twenty-seven years. He retired in 1980 at the young age of 50 as Research Supervisor. He was a skilled carpenter who built his own home in 1954 and kept busy with projects after his retirement. Charles was an avid aviation enthusiast as well as an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and trapping with his son Roger. He also loved country music and playing guitar, steel guitar and banjo. He was a fan of TV Westerns. He loved playing golf and spending time with his grandson Nicholas. There will be no calling hours and the service will be family only at The Storrs Cemetery.
