Charles Roger Grant, 84, of Columbia, CT passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 at Windham Hospital. He was born July 22, 1935 in Willimantic, CT to the late Lloyd Eugene Brown Grant and Sylvia Althea Miner Grant.
Charlie was a hard worker starting at age 14 working with his dad on the farm and saw mill, full time. He started his career at Ralston Purina as a truck driver, ending it 15 years later running the Willimantic mill. Charlie learned the welding trade working for Bearce Machine, then moved to Columbia Pre Cast where he progressed to Plant Manager. Charlie ended his career at Electric Boat as a ship fitter, retiring after 21 years.
Charlie also served two hitches in the United States Army, beginning in 1958, and being honorably discharged after his second hitch in 1964. He was a lifelong member of both the American Legion and Elks Club.
He had many talents, but his favorite hobby was wood working. He made many beautiful items which ranged from intricate cabinetry to simpler items like bird houses and cutting boards.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 59 wonderful years, Teresa Ann Chamberland Grant; two sons, Charles (Chuck) Lloyd and his wife Sherri and Paul Leo and his wife Donna-Marie; grandchildren, Charles William Grant and his wife Jessica; and step grandson, Matthew Steven Card; a great granddaughter, Luna Sage. He is predeceased by his brothers, Lloyd and Donald Grant; sisters, Sylvia Bub and Althea Grant.
The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, October 16, 2019 from 4-7pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. Willimantic, CT. The Funeral Service will be 11 am Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Goshen Hill Church 157 Church Rd. Lebanon, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the New Lebanon Cemetery Waterman Rd. Lebanon, CT.
