Carol Phillips Obituary

Carol Kelly Phillips, 93,  of Storrs, CT, died peacefully on February 9, 2020.   Born in Buffalo, NY, Carol was the daughter of the late Thomas Michael and Mary Genevieve (Trout) Kelly.  She was predeceased by her sister Marcia Joan Brickley.  Carol is survived by her sons, Alvah Gordon Phillips of St. Louis, MO and Roger Thomas Phillips and his wife Ann (Pudelkiewicz) Phillips of Ashford, CT.  She was the proud grandmother of four granddaughters, Kelly Ann Phillips and Kasey Marie Phillips of Ashford, CT and Caroline Josephine Phillips and Amy Miriam Phillips of St. Louis, MO.  Carol received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and a master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of Connecticut.

Carol lived a vibrant life as a teacher, volunteer, traveler, and dear friend to those who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.  She taught two generations of students at Coventry Grammar School and took delight in introducing students to the joys of nature through Nature’s Classroom.  She enjoyed summers traveling with family, friends, and on her own around the globe.  She was also a teacher of life – sharing her love of cats, music, reading, birding, poetry, quilting, knitting, and crossword puzzles with others.  Her commitment to volunteerism and worthy causes included the League of Women Voters, teaching English as a Second Language, serving as a poll worker, and helping coordinate the annual book sale for the Friends of Mansfield Library.

In lieu of a funeral service, donations in Carol’s memory can be made to the Mansfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 145, Storrs, CT  06268.
