Carl J. (Jr.) Schwager

Carl J. Schwager, Jr., 87, of Willimantic, CT passed away on June 30, 2022. He was born in Hartford, CT, son of the late Carl J. Schwager, Sr., and Marie (Melhorn) Schwager.

Carl loved his family; he was a very family-oriented man. When the kids were young, he and his wife, Lillian, would take them camping. He loved his garden, flowers, and birds; especially his 23-year-old blue and gold Macaw. He also enjoyed the women’s UConn basketball and car shows. Before retirement, he was an autobody man.

He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Lillian (Luurtsema) Schwager; children Elaine LaChappelle, Lynn Schwager, and Douglas and his wife Patricia “Buffy” Schwager; grandchildren Ethan and his wife Katrina and Nicholas Schwager and Justin and Amy-Lynn Graubaum; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Nevaeh, and Whitley Schwager; sisters, Elizabeth Zahansky and her husband Robert, Marie Buskey and her husband Richard, and Janice Kincman.

He was predeceased by his son Carl J. Schwager, III, son-in-law Robert LaChapelle, and brother-in-law David Kincman.

There are no calling hours. His graveside service will be on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11:00am at the Windham Center Cemetery in Windham, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice, 34 Ledgebrook Dr. Mansfield Center, CT 06250.
