Betty M. Dunnack, 96, of Columbia, CT passed away May 30, 2020. A lifelong resident of Columbia, CT, Betty was the daughter of Robert S. Cobb and May Church Cobb of Cobblestone Farm in Columbia, born May 10, 1924. Bet was a 1938 graduate of the West Street (one-room) School House, and a 1942 graduate of Windham High School. She married her high school sweetheart Jerry in 1945 in Walla Walla, WA, where he was stationed as a member of the Army Air Corp during WWII. Bet and Jerry returned to Columbia and built a house on Cobblestone Farm land in 1946, in which she passed away peacefully.
Bet partnered with Jerry to support their family by working for the Willimantic Housing Authority and Horace Porter School in Columbia. She was also well-known as the official scorekeeper for the Ridges Baseball Team in the Willimantic Twilight League. For her many years of service to the Willimantic Housing Authority, the Betty Dunnack Commons Building was named in her honor.
Betty was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Jerry; brothers Ray Cobb, Art Cobb, Jim Cobb, sister Dorothy Cobb Olson, and granddaughter Serenity.
She is survived by her son Scott, daughter-in-law Ann; grandchildren Samantha (Joe) Randazzo, Jocelyn Dunnack, and Eric Dunnack. Great-grandchildren Victoria, Christina, and Trystan Randazzo, and Rohan and Lillian Johnson. Sisters-in-law Anne Cobb and Jesse Dunnack, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in her name may be made to the Columbia Congregational Church, Rout 87, Columbia, CT.
