Austin C. Doscher, 94, husband of the late Jacqueline (Ranges) Doscher, died Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Douglas Manor.
He was born and raised in Newark New Jersey, the son of the late Albert and Mary Frances (Philhower) Doscher. Austin graduated in 1944 from Fortlee High School and then attended Long Island Agricultural Technical School. He became a man of many trades.
Austin married his high school sweetheart in New Jersey and then they eventually moved to Columbia CT where they raised their four children. They later resided in Windham CT
Austin loved spending the summers in Wells Maine with family and friends at the beach house that he and Jackie had built. He enjoyed reading novels, gardening, bird watching and had a great love for animals. Austin was an avid fan of UCONN women’s basketball and the NY Giants.
Austin was a member of local Congregational Churches and took great pleasure with singing in the choir. He established many close friendships within the congregations.
Austin was a gentle, kind, loving man with a great sense of humor. He is survived by his son Scott Doscher of Windham CT, daughter Sandra (Steven) Jarzabek of Hudson ME, daughter Sherry (Brad) Wojick of Windham CT, and son Jay Doscher of Willimantic CT. Austin adored all of his grandchildren (7) and great-grandchildren (10). He will be sorely be missed.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Douglas Manor for their kindness and compassion in care of Austin. He especially loved spending time in the physical therapy room socializing with everyone.
There are no calling hours. A private family graveside service will be held in the spring.
