Alexander Stephen Twerdy, 93, of Willimantic, CT passed away peacefully on October 8, 2020 at Douglas Manor in Windham, CT. Alexander, known as Steve, was born June 10, 1927 to Benedict and Augustina (Terlecki) Twerdy. He was raised on a farm in Coventry, CT. Steve became a construction carpenter and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 24, for over 50 years and worked throughout the state. He married Dolores Laliberte on September 3, 1951 at St. Mary Church in Willimantic, CT. They lived on Pleasant Street in Willimantic for many years until Steve built their home down by the Willimantic River. Steve is survived by his wife Dolores, sister Leona Gordon, brother John Twedy (Claire), sister in law Patricia Bentley (Lyle), brother in law Ernest Laliberte (Barbara), numerous nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters Mary and Tessie Twerdy, Stella Smith, and Geraldine Santoro, and eight brothers Nicholas, Benedict Jr., Peter, Fred, Walter, Edward, Carl, and Paul Twerdy. His family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at Douglas Manor for the care and kindness they gave Steve during these difficult times. They also want to thank the nurses from Hospice who made his last days as comfortable as possible. Steve’s graveside service will be private at Nathan Hale Cemetery in Coventry, CT.
