Yvonne M. Allan, 88, of Mansfield Center, Connecticut, beloved wife of Gordon B. Allan, died on Friday (November 29, 2002). Born December 13, 1913 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Samuel and Jeanne Labastie. She graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1931, from Radcliffe College in 1936 with a B.A. in French, and from Boston University with a Master of Education in 1937. She taught French at Murdock High School in Winchendon, MA from 1939 to 1941. She taught at Belmont Junior High School in Belmont, MA from 1956 to 1957. She taught French in Coventry High School in Connecticut from 1961 to 1963. She retired from Manchester High School in Connecticut after teaching French there from 1963 to 1978. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Northern Connecticut. She was also a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Mansfield Center. She enjoyed music and was very talented in knitting and tatting. On October 3, 1941 she wed Gordon B. Allan at First Church, Congregational on Garden Street opposite the Common in Cambridge, MA. Gordon and Yvonne resided in West Medford, MA from 1941 to 1957, in Barre, MA from 1957 to 1960, and since that date have resided in Mansfield Center, CT. Yvonne is survived by her three sons, Richard G. Allan and wife Carolyn of Barre, MA; Glenn S. Allan and wife Paula of Amherst, MA; and Curtis "Sandy" Allan of Pompano Beach, FL. She is also survived by her brother Albert H. Labastie of Marblehead, MA and her grandchildren Erica Allan and Alexander Allan and great grandson Jacob Allan. Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m on Wednesday, December 4th at the Potter Funeral Home at 456 Jackson Street (Rt. 195), Willimantic, CT. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 5th at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, Mansfield Center, CT, followed by burial in the Mansfield Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to Camp Rising Sun (Program of the American Cancer Society) c/o Charles Ailinger, 72 Doubleday Road, Columbia, CT 06237.
