Wladyslaw "Walter" C. Tokarz, born on February 22, 1947 in Westerly, RI, passed away unexpectedly in Columbia, CT on August 5, 2023. Walter, a man known for his caring and helpful demeanor. Walter shared his loving heart and generous nature through kind, thoughtful actions and, the most valuable gift, his time. He has left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

Walter, a loving husband through 29 years of marriage to his late wife, Patricia, kept her memory alive after her death. His devotion to her was an inspiration to all who knew him. Walter was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, father figure, confidant, co-worker, and friend. Walter is survived by his son Walter Tokarz, grandson (Walter) Riley Tokarz and his mother Samantha Tokarz, his daughter Kathleen Williams and her husband Scott Williams, and grandsons Hunter Williams, Jack Williams, and Eli Williams, his brother Charlie Tokarz and sister-in-law Pamela Howitt, as well as, many extended family and friends who hold cherished memories of Walter in their hearts.

Walter was a proud graduate of Windham High School. He continued and completed his education at Windham Technical School. Following his education, Walter served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was a proud veteran. After serving, Walter returned to a position at Roger's Corporation in Windham, CT, where he devoted 38 years of his life. His hard work and commitment made him an essential part of the organization where he performed many tasks in all departments, and was respected by his colleagues who held him in high esteem. When Roger’s relocated operations to China, Walter was forced to retrain himself to continue working and he took on the challenge of a second career as a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens, where he was admired for his diligence and dedication.

After a well-deserved retirement, Walter’s work ethic followed him into the role of caring for his 4 grandsons, a role he cherished providing them with love, care, and wisdom that they will carry with them throughout their lives. Walter’s joy in life was his grandsons; (Walter) Riley Tokarz, Hunter, Jack, and Eli Williams.

Walter was a straight forward person and a hard worker. He enjoyed many sports and followed many teams on television. He was most passionate about his grandsons’ events and sports endeavors and was a devoted fan to the UConn Women's Basketball team. Walter also followed team USA Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams. Walter kept himself busy and enjoyed working in his yard and taking care of his family, by always being there whenever he was needed.

Walter's lifelong love of photography captured many moments and family memories. He traveled to Hawaii with his son Walter and grandson Riley to visit Pearl Harbor, Hike Diamond Head, and visited the mighty Kilauea volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. He trekked all over Disney World with his daughter Kathy and the Williams family, living the experience of Star Wars and riding all of the roller coasters with them.

Walter’s life was a gift to us all, and his memory will be cherished forever.

Spending quality time with his family was of utmost importance to Walter. Whether it was watching his grandsons play sports, vacationing, dining out, or simply eating in, these moments were precious to him. He was a family man who left a legacy of love and dedication, and his absence will leave a void impossible to fill.

As we remember Walter, we celebrate a man who embodied the qualities of love and generosity, living life on his own terms. His loving nature was evident in the way he cared for his family and friends. His generosity was seen in his willingness to always lend a helping hand. His legacy will be carried on by his children and grandchildren and continue to inspire and guide them.
