William Nathan Stoll, 66, of Manchester, CT, passed away on March 31st, 2023, due to natural causes.
William was born on March 14th, 1957, to Irma and William August Stoll in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil. His father was a pastor who also ran a Christian bookstore. William's brother Daniel was born in 1959, his lifelong best friend.
In the 1970s, The brothers attended high school in São Paulo, Brazil, at the Pan-American Christian Academy (PACA). William played basketball and soccer during these years. In São Paulo, William discovered a love for cars and racing at the Interlagos racetrack.
After graduating from PACA in 1975, he studied philosophy and sculpture at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, USA. Additionally, he continued to play soccer. William worked as a mechanic and fisherman to make ends meet. In 1975, William met Jane Larson, and they married in 1978. William graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of General Studies in 1980. The couple moved to Redlands, California, with their terrier, Mazie.
William built and repaired houses while working towards his master's degree in business at UCLA Riverside. He also taught undergraduate MIS/Business Information Systems classes at the Anderson Graduate School of Management. William's first daughter, Sarah Jane, was born in San Bernardino, CA, in Loma Linda Hospital in 1995. He enjoyed teaching her how to swim in their pool and taking her on visits to Mexico. They adopted another Terrier named Muffin. In addition, William enjoyed the Western state parks and took landscape photography.
After William attained his MBA, MIS, and master’s in finance from UCLA in 1993, the family moved to Connecticut, where William worked as an IT consultant. William worked for several companies, including PeopleSoft, Inc, Hartford Financial Services Group, GE, and Gartner. He worked in this field for 18 years. In 1998, he purchased an old farmhouse in Woodstock, CT. His second daughter, Sophia Katherine, was born in 2000.
On the weekends, William took care of his property, drove his BMW, and barbecued. He loved visiting the local Paderia, a Brazilian bakery. At home, William played with his kids and dogs. In 2008, Jane gave William his beloved chocolate lab, Lucy, as a birthday present. He took Lucy to the pond to swim and hike at state parks. The family enjoyed their summer breaks in Maine, especially Monhegan Island. William had a love for seafood. In 2011, he wanted to give his daughters an experience similar to his childhood in Brazil, so he took the family to Puerto Rico for Spring Break.
William was a supportive father who supported his daughters and encouraged them through their early careers. Playful but hardworking, bossa nova and samba music kept him company in his home office. He also indulged in Rock n Roll with love for The Beatles and Pink Floyd.
