Wilfred I. Atkins

Wilfred I. Atkins, 92, of Columbia, husband of the late Lillian Atkins, died Tuesday June 2, 2009 at home. Born in Hartford, he was a former South Windsor resident moving to Columbia over twenty five years ago. Although not a World War II veteran he served his country at that time manufacturing steam turbines for the U.S. Navy. Wilfred enjoyed golf, bingo and traveling. He is survived by a son Barry Atkins and his wife Dorothy of Chaplin, a daughter Kathleen Martin and her husband Ken of PA., his twin brother Wilbur Atkins of OR., two grandsons, Cory Atkins of Columbia and Matthew Nagy of PA., a great grandson Cole Atkins of Columbia and a longtime friend Madeline Burns of Willimantic. Private funeral services were held on June 5th at Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic. Interment followed in St. Mary Cemetery, East Hartford.
