Wayne Stoddard Obituary
Wayne Taylor Stoddard passed away in his home on August 21,2024.

Wayne was born December 24,1941 in Lowville, NY to Earle W. Stoddard and Gladys (Taylor) Stoddard.

Wayne loved to reflect on and share stories from his childhood, his paper route, farming work, school, friends and of course shenanigans.  His stories that included his brother Ron were especially comical. Wayne attended public schools in Lowville, graduating from Lowville Academy in 1959. He spoke often of his lifelong friendships made there and enjoyed making trips back for reunions.

Wayne served our country by enlisting in the Navy.  He was honorably discharged in 1964. He also served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged from that service in 1988.

Wayne continued by serving the state as a Connecticut State Trooper. He graduated from the State Police Academy in 1967. Wayne attained an A.S. degree in Police Science in 1979 from Mohegan Community College. Wayne served many communities during his career, Troop E, Troop C, Troop K, Resident State Trooper- Town of Ledyard, the Statewide Organized Crime Investigative Task Force-Meriden and The Criminal Investigation Unit- Groton/Montville. Wayne retired in 1992 as a Major Crime Squad Detective. After his police career, Wayne worked many years at Zlotnick’s gas station in Chaplin, CT. There he gained many solid friendships and added lots of stories to his already lengthy list of them. Wayne gave of his time and talents as a volunteer in the Yantic Volunteer Fire Company and the Hampton Fire Company. Wayne held the honor of being a life member of the Windham County Agricultural Society and loved spending time every year at the Brooklyn Fair. Wayne held the office of Second Selectman in the town of Hampton. For a time, he was a deacon at the Hampton Congregational Church and sang in the choir.

Wayne loved sports. In his younger days he enjoyed playing softball and was an avid golfer until only a few years ago. You would often find Wayne at a Recreation field cheering on friends playing ball. He rarely went anywhere without his Yankees hat. He would strike up a conversation with anyone about the previous night’s game…win or lose.

Wayne enjoyed chatting over meals, any meal, just about anywhere. Some of his favorites were not only about the food and atmosphere but the waitstaff that became not only friends but family to him. The Breakfast Place, Bidwell Tavern, Apollo’s, and Ryan’s Place to name a few.  Meeting “The Guys” for breakfast was a highlight for him.

Most would agree, Wayne was larger than life. Those close to him valued his advice, his shoulder to cry on, and his wealth of knowledge. He would do all he could to help in a time of need.  Wayne himself would agree he was stubborn and at times hardheaded, but the bottom line was love!  He loved fiercely.

May the memory of his stories, and quick-witted humor bring a smile to your face and happiness to your heart.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents, his brother Ronald Stoddard and sister Eloise Davies.

Wayne is survived by his children Cynthia Young and Jeffrey (Heather) Stoddard. His grandchildren, Andrew (Maureen) Young, Kelsey Young, Summer Stoddard and Mason Stoddard, and a great granddaughter, Meadow Grace Faulise.

Wayne’s family also included his two “surrogate’ daughters and their families, Sandra (Mark) Frizzell and Dorsey (Matthew) Egan, his “surrogate” grandchildren, Tyler (Gabrielle) Frizzell, Godson Connor (Callie) Frizzell, Trevor Frizzell, Erika Egan, Owen Egan and his “surrogate” great grandchildren, Colton and Caden Frizzell and Cameron and Owen Frizzell.
