Warren Palmer Sr., 79, of Willimantic, born May 18, 1934 in Andover, died at Regency Heights in Willimantic on Monday, February 3rd 2014 after a long illness. Warren was often remembered as a Sargent with the Willimantic Police Department where he worked for 26 years, often aiding in investigations with the Connecticut State Police and other agencies. After his retirement, he and his late wife, Karen, established security at the East Brook Mall, prior to and after its opening. Always involved in some aspect of the law, he later took a position as a Loss Prevention Officer for First National Stores, a job which took him all over New England. Afterwards he took a job directing traffic for C L & P throughout the state. Warren was foremost a family man, he loved taking family vacations and was always there to help his children and his beloved grandchildren. He was also known for his award winning Christmas light displays at his home on Friendship Street. He won several local awards and was recognized for his displays in local newspapers and local television. Warren also loved cars and and was, at one point, the family mechanic. Warren leaves behind his beloved wife of eight years, Joan Watson Palmer, his daughters, Wendy Cates of Willimantic, Charlene Fernandez Geary of Woodstock and his son, Warren Palmer Jr. of Willimantic, his two grandsons, Ricky Palmer of Willimantic and Ben Palmer of Manchester, his step children, Lori-Ann Watson of South Carolina and James Watson of Manchester , several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Karen Rose Palmer in 2003, his beloved granddaughter, Kimberly G. Rivera in 2006, and his grandson, Justyn Palmer of Florida in 2012. Warren loved animals and most often had a pet in his life. He was known by many people in the Windham area and had helped many. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Willimantic and a former member of the Board of Elders. He took all of his life's duties very seriously and will be missed by many!
