Walter "Walt" Butler Sr. passed from his earthly life on Tuesday May 21, 2002 at home with his wife Eleanor (Morelli), son, Walter Jr. and daughter Patricia at his side after a hard fought battle with cancer. Walter enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He spent over 40 years in the retail grocery trade, cheerfully greeting customers for many years beginning with Morelli's Market which later became Labranches Supermarket in Chaplin, then Brodeur's of Plainfield before winding up his career as a shift manager in the food warehouses at the Foxwoods casino and Resort before retiring in 1998. A loving and cherished husband, father and grandfather who was always there for his family and friends with a cheery smile and sunny disposition, he is survived by his wife Eleanor, son Walter Jr. and his wife Carol, daughter Patricia, granddaughters, Colleen and Christine, brother Earl, sisters Gertrude Landon, Dorothy Desrosiers and Florence Fredette. Walter was predeceased by his brother Lewis and sister Grace Carlson. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Willimantic, 199 Valley St. Willimantic with the Reverend Richard Duvall officiating. Burial will follow in the South Chaplin Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. arrangements are through the Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
