Walter S. Pudlo

February 7, 1935 — August 7, 2013

WINDHAM CENTER - Walter S. Pudlo, loving husband for 57 years of Theresa (Shimesky) Pudlo, his high school sweetheart, passed away peacefully at Windham Hospital with family by his side on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Walter was born on the Pudlo Farm in Lebanon, CT on February 7, 1935, the son of Stanislaw and Anna (Pervosnik) Pudlo. Walter was a graduate of Windham Technical School, became a tool and die maker, and later retired as the Machine Tool Department Head from Windham Vocational Technical School. Walter was exceptionally skilled in many trades; he could fix and build most anything - what an asset to have around! Woodworking was a favorite pastime, and he repaired and refinished beautiful furniture, which led to his and Theresa's 25-year involvement in antiquing. He was very kind, generous, and quick to lend a helping hand. A devoted family man, he enjoyed spending time fishing, camping, and vacationing with his grandchildren. His favorite vacation places included the house he designed and built on North Pond in Norway, Maine and camping at Fort Getty in Jamestown, Rhode Island. He was predeceased by five sisters; Josephine, Helen, Sophie, Edna, and Lora, and three brothers John, Edward, and Henry. Walter is survived by his wife, his son Stephen Pudlo of Jewett City, his son Michael Pudlo and his wife Mary Lou of Plainfield, his son David Pudlo and his wife Laurie of Colchester, his daughter Aleta Tintle and her husband Bill of Stewartsville, New Jersey, and his daughter Lynette Gryk and her husband Thomas of Windham; nine grandchildren: Allen, Sam, Julia, Kevin, Maggie, Daniel, Diane, Anthony, & Katherine; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday August 10, 2013 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic followed by a procession to St. Joseph Church, Willimantic for the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Windham Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant Soup Kitchen, 220 Valley St., Willimantic, CT 06226.
