Walter James Nyquist of Columbia, CT., died on Jan. 17, 2013. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 56 years Adelaide (Cember) Nyquist, four daughters, Karen Poirier and her husband Daniel of E. Haddam and their daughters April and Shannon, Melane Larned and her husband Mike of E. Haddam and their daughters Michelle and Maryann, Mary Kullgren of Bennington, NH and her children Isaac and Jennifer, Susan Conte and her husband Daniel of Nottingham, NH and their sons Tyler, Andrew and Anthony; a brother William Dunn Nyquist of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, nieces Nancy Czapek of Washington, DC, Isabel Nossek and her husband Ronald and their sons Benjamin and Jeffrey; and a nephew Edmond "Ned" Czapek and his daughters Kelly and Crystal. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Isabel (Lamont) Nyquist, brother John "Jack" Nyquist and a sister MaryAnn Czapek and her husband Edmond. Walter graduated from Hartford High School in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged after his enlistment. Walter worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service for 32 years as an engineering technician. His greatest joy was his family, especially his four daughters and 9 grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Columba Church. There are no calling hours. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday Jan. 19th at 11:00 am at St. Columba Church, intersection of Rte. 87 and Rte. 66, Columbia, with assembly at the church.
