Walter "Dep" Deptula 86, of Columbia, passed away September 11th, 2011. Walter was born April 16th, 1925 in Manchester, CT. He was the son of the late Peter and Mary Deptula. Walter leaves his wife of 62 years, Mary. He leaves his first son Walter P. of Columbia, his second son Danny and his wife Kathie of Storrs, his third son Douglas of Columbia and his fourth son Paul of Willimantic. He also leaves his grandson Dan Jr. and his family Jen, Nick and Matt of Mansfield. He leaves an older sister Sophia, of Seattle, WA, and a younger sister Helen, of Selden, N.Y. Walter retired from the State of Connecticut as the Connecticut Veterans Employment Representative. Walter was a WWII veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre. Walter served on many committees through out his life. He was a charter member of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department, a past commander for the American Legion Hebron/Columbia Chapter and a council member for the Boy Scouts of America. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Polish National Youth Foundation. According to his wishes there will be no calling hours. There will be a memorial service at a later date at the convenience of his family.
