Virginia May Lyford, 86, of Willimantic, died Saturday May 28, 2011 at Windham Hospital. She was born on Jan. 10, 1925 in Hermon, Maine, the daughter of John Pomelow and Dorothy Bulmer. Virginia had been employed at Mansfield State Training School for over twenty years prior to her retirement. She had been active at McSweeney Senior Center and enjoyed deep sea fishing, NASCAR, bingo and crocheting. She is survived by a daughter Ann Bartholomew of Willimantic, CT, a son Michael Lyford and his wife Dianne of Chaplin, CT, a brother Victor Pomelow of Bucksport, ME, two sisters, Marion Carr of Dexter, ME and Rowena Porter of TX; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her faithful companion Maggie May. Virginia was predeceased by two sons, Stephen and Chris and a daughter Sherry Montoya. There are no calling hours and graveside services will be private in New Willimantic Cemetery.
