Virginia Gellert

Virginia (Eldridge) Gellert, 75, of Abington, wife of Theodore Ted Gellert, died Tuesday evening Dec. 27, 2005 at Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam. She was born Aug. 27, 1930 in Willimantic the daughter of Harold and Ruth (L Hommedieu) Eldridge. Virginia was a graduate of the Willimantic State Teachers College (now ECSU) and received her Master s Degree from UConn. She had served as the principal of the Eastford Elementary School and previously as the teaching principal at Scotland Elementary School. Virginia was a member of the Eastford Congregational Church and the Women s Board at Day Kimball Hospital. She was the director of Eastwinds Singers for many years. In addition to her husband Ted, she is survived by a stepbrother Cecil W. Scott of Grosse Point Park , MI., a stepsister Marie Eldridge of Windham Center, a sister in law Barbara Eldridge of Scotland and several nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Friday between 6:00 and 8:00pm. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 at the Eastford Congregational Church, Church Road, Eastford. Burial will be private in State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
