Viola Abbott Stearns

Viola "Bunny" (Jublin) Abbott Stearns, wife of Robert O. Stearns, passed away on June 4, 2003 at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford. She was the daughter of the late Anna and Louis Jublin of Darien and wife of the late Louis French Abbott of Darien. She was born in Port Chester, N.Y. on July 4, 1911. She is survived by a son and his wife, Edward and Olive "Sis" Abbott of Stamford, a granddaughter and her husband, Lori and Michael Fuda of Stamford, a grandson and his wife, Robert and Anna Abbott of Darien, 3 step daughters; Sally French of Coventry, Arlene Thompson of Tolland, and Susan Smith and her husband Gail Nelson Smith of Windham, 10 step grandchildren and many step great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Irene Driscoll of Danbury. Bunny was a member of the first graduating class of Darien High School in 1929. She was a 25 year employee for Machlett Raytheon Laboratories of Stamford. She was also a longtime member of Emanuel Episcopal Church in Springdale; a 50 year member of Rosemary Chapter #85 Order of Amaranth of Darien and a member of Rainbow Court #20 Order of Amaranth of N. Windham. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her Memorial Service on Monday at 1:00pm at the First United Methodist Church, 29 Puddin La., Mansfield. Calling hours will be held at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. Willimantic on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation of CT., P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, Ct. 06492.
