Viola D. (Hawkes) Noel, lovingly known as Vi, Ma, Mom, Grandma, and Auntie Vi, was raised and lived in Hampton all of her life. She and husband Charlie made their first home farming on Station Road and then purchased the "caretaker's cottage" on the edge of Goodwin Forest at Clark's Corner, where they have lived for over 50 years. Auntie Vi, in her own words, "liked to keep busy," but her great love and priority was her family. Extremely knowledgeable about anything she put her mind to, hardworking Vi was for many years a quality control supervisor at the Electromotive plant in Willimantic. From there, she worked in retail at Grant's on West Main Street, and then supervising the Domestics and Housewares department at the newly opened Caldor at the Eastbrook Mall. Vi was always the kind and friendly face who could find just what you might need. The Noel's home was always a place for friends to gather: Vi was "mom" to her children's friends and when needed offered kindly advice and guidance. Besides her love of her family and especially her grandchildren, Vi was happiest gardening with Charlie, reading favorite mysteries and romances, and spending summers at Misquamicut. Vi is survived by her husband Charlie of 65 years, son Charles (Jacquie), daughters Kathy (Loren), Johnson, and Judy Noel; grandchildren Monica (Mathiew) St. Jean, Ryan and Kyle Noel, Dakota Bartlett, great-granddaughter Brynn St. Jean, and a sister Margaret Easton. She was predeceased by a brother, Philip, and sisters, Lucille, Addie, Amy, Bertha, Watie, and Lillies. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, April 11th, at 1:00PM at Holt Fellowship Hall, Hampton Congregational Church to celebrate Vi's life, and share remembrances. A luncheon reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Fletcher Memorial Library in Hampton or to the Hampton Fire Department. An online guestbook is available at
