Vernice Hooks Obituary
Vernice Gray Hooks, 81, of North Windham, joined her siblings to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones.  Vernice was born, October 24, 1938, in Wayne County NC to the late Lena and John Henry Hooks.  In the early 1960’s Vernice relocated to Connecticut with her family.  She was a laborer for many years working at the Electric Boat and General Cable.  She retired from General Cable in the 90’s.

Vernice was a devoted sister, special aunt and extremely sweet.  She always stood in the gap for her family and dear friends.  Vernice, affectionately known as “Auntie” loved life.  She enjoyed her time at the casino and was an avid traveler.  She wanted to see the world traveling across the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas.

Aunt Vernice is survived by her special niece Elaine Hooks and their companion and dog Corbin both of North Windham.  She was predeceased by her sister Betty Jean Fields, and brothers John Frank, Edgar Lee, and Roy Chester Hooks.  She leaves to mourn her loss, a slew of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Vernice love was palatable, her sense of humor unforgettable and her sweetness immeasurable.

Vernice’s funeral service will be private. Her graveside service will be on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 11:00am at New Willimantic Cemetery.
