Velma B. Sullivan

Velma (Brown) Sullivan, age 89, of Willimantic died on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Saint Joseph Living Center, Windham, CT. She was born in Willimantic on January 15, 1917, the daughter of the late Frank and Maude (Tracy) Brown. She lived most of her life in Willimantic where she was a communicant at St. Joseph Church. Velma had a strong work ethic and she truly delighted in the pursuit of knowledge throughout her life. She worked in the mills and factories of Willimantic and later was employed for many years as a claims supervisor with the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company before her retirement. She never tired of taking educational courses. She loved to travel and visited all seven continents. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader. She was an excellent golfer. Hers was a long and full life. Velma is survived by her children, Terence Sullivan, and his wife Mary, of Willington, Deborah Fitzgerald, and her husband Paul, of Waterford, and Mark Sullivan, and his wife Dolores, of Haslett, MI; five grandchildren, Michael Sullivan of Arlington, MA, Dr. John Sullivan of Miami, Fl., Maureen Sullivan of Corpus Christi, TX, Timothy Fitzgerald of Haverill, MA. and Karen Owen of Haslett, MI; and five great grandchildren: James, Kaleigh, Connor, Mackenzie, and Nora. She was predeceased by her grandson Kevin Sullivan of Haslett, MI. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic with assembly at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
