Vaike S. Lugus, 88, a resident of Lebanon, CT for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2013. Vaike was born July 21, 1924 near Tallinn, Estonia to Johan and Aleksandra (Kauflich-Keevallik) Sarv. She attended schools in Tallinn until she fled her homeland in 1944 to Germany. She married Hans Lugus in June 1947 in Geislingen (Steige), Germany. They came to this country in 1949 and settled in Lebanon, CT. Vaike earned her masters degree from UConn, Storrs, and was a teacher with the Bozrah School System for over 30 years. As well as being a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Vaike was a president and longtime member of the CT Estonian Society, a charter and lifetime executive board member of the Estonian World Council, representing the American Estonian National Council, she was heavily involved with the ESTO festivals celebrating Estonian Arts and Culture, she was a leader with the Estonian and the CT Girl Scouts and many other national, state and community activities. She was predeceased by her husband Hans and daughters Anne Lisa and Tiina Lisa. Left to cherish her memory are her son Kristjan and Jennifer (Hoffman) Lugus, grandchildren Hans Kristjan and Katherine Ann Lugus, all of Milford, CT; her sister Lia Pikkov, Toronto, Canada, niece Deanna (Pikkov) Faustmann , nephews Mart Pikkov, John Lugus and Martin Lugus and their families, as well as relatives and dear friends here, in Estonia and around the world. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at 11:00 AM at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT. Interment will be at New Lebanon Cemetery following the service. Please visit
