Ulla Hussey

October 12, 1914 — January 31, 2013

Ulla Salmi Asmussen Hussey, 98, of Storrs, Connecticut passed away peacefully Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Windham Hospital in Willimantic after a brief illness. She was born in Birkerod, Denmark October 12, 1914, the daughter of Viggo and Ida (Salmi) Asmussen. After completing her education in Denmark, Ulla took a position with a titled Lady in London, England where she remained during the duration of WWII. After the war, speaking fluent German, she became a Danish censor in the British occupied zone of Germany locating war criminals. In 1949, she left Denmark for the United States settling in New Hampshire with her aunt. Shortly thereafter, she met her husband Kenneth H. Hussey, and they eventually relocated to Connecticut. She was previously employed by the American Thread Company and Windham Hospital. After retiring, she became an outstanding volunteer for many years with TVCCA Congregate, Meals on Wheels and the Mansfield Senior Center in Storrs. Gardening was her favorite hobby, but she also held an interest in knitting, reading, computer knowledge and archeology. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Willimantic, and past member of the Finnish Club in Canterbury, Danish Society of Massachusetts, and National Organization for Women. Ulla's memory will be cherished by her daughter Gay Lynn Kozersky and son-in-law William Kozersky of Florida, best friend Carl Traceski of Vernon-Rockville, and dear friends who were very special in her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant daughter Edna May Hussey. Ulla will be remembered for her gentle kindness and selfless giving from the heart along with the lovely gardens she created at Wrights Way Village in Storrs where she resided for many years. A heartfelt thanks to family and friends for their prayers and words of comfort during this difficult time. "Do not weep at my grave - I am not there. I am in the sun's reflection in the sea, I am in the wind's play above the grain fields, I am in the autumn's gentle rain, I am in the Milky Way's string of stars. And when on an early morning you are awakened by bird's song, it is my voice that you are hearing. So do not weep at my grave - we shall meet again." Funeral services are private. The Potter Funeral Home in Willimantic, Connecticut is in charge of arrangements. To add condolences to the online memorial guestbook, please visit www.potterfuneralhome.com
