A 1975 graduate of Granby Memorial High School, Tom attended UConn graduating in 1979 with a degree in physical therapy. After graduation he worked as a physical therapist at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT before joining the athletic department at UConn.
Tom had a tremendous love for sports working for 40 years in the athletic department at UConn as the assistant then travel manager, often traveling with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams to Final Four Championships. He spent decades as a softball umpire for the Willi MAC league and became a member of their Hall of Fame in 2011. He also refereed youth soccer for many years.
Additionally, Tom and a group of other athletically minded friends formed Timing is Everything, a small business which ran the time clock, kept stats, possession arrow, etc., for college basketball and football games, soccer and hockey matches, field hockey and other sports. For many years Tom also ran the scoreboards for the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Hartford Yard Goats.
After retirement, Tom and Jan moved to Florida where they became involved with Save Crystal River, and served as volunteers at the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge educating the public about, and protecting, manatees. Paddling with manatees always brought Tom peace and happiness.
