Theodore (Ted) P. Simmons, 91, of Ashford, Connecticut, passed away at home on Monday, June 23, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara (Manning) Simmons. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Ted was the son of the late Frank A. and Olga (Ackermann) Simmons. He graduated from Enfield High School and the University of Connecticut School of Agriculture.
Ted was a proud 58-year (retired) member of Ironworker’s Local #15. He was a lifetime member of the Norwich Power Squadron. He was a former Selectman of the Town of Ashford, former chair of the Ashford Housing Authority-Senior Housing, served on the Ashford Recreation Committee, former chair of the Ashford Republican Town Committee and member of the Republican State Central Committee. He enjoyed boating and fishing off the coast of Rhode Island with friends and family, skiing, golf, traveling, UConn basketball, and especially driving his John Deere tractor. He took great pleasure in maintaining his large lawn. Ted had many beloved pets over the years.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Mary Manning and niece Sharon Manning, and sister-in-law Linda Manning. Also, his special long-time treasured friends, who were family, Paul and Beata and Stephen and Gail Metsack and their families. Also, cousins, nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Myron Manning and niece, Sheila Manning. Ted will be dearly missed.

Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hour from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the Living Proof Church, 30 Pompey Hollow Road (Route 44), Ashford, Connecticut, followed by a celebration of Ted’s life starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
