Will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts. Thelma Georgianna Handfield Majeski of Bozrah passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Wednesday, May 12. 2010 after a lengthy battle with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She was born February 1, 1925 to Ernest and Ann (Wynn) Chamberlin in North Franklin, Connecticut. She is survived by her eight wonderful children and their spouses, Francis "Jerry" Jr. & Val Handfield of Olympia, Washington, Carol & Jack Valone of North Windham, James & Diane Handfield of North Windham, John & Lois Handfield of Andover, Philip & Pamela Handfield of Lebanon, Elizabeth & Tony Kasacek of Scotland, Charles & Melinda Handfield of Cummington, Massachusetts and Richard & Julie Handfield of Franklin. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jamie Bender of Lebanon, Francis "Jay" Handfield III of New York City, Don Handfield of West Hollywood, CA; Krista Handfield of Providence, RI; Alison Valone Suhocki of New Hartford, Tony Kasacek, Jr. of Canterbury, Tricia Valone of West Hartford, Cory Kasacek of Canterbury, and Brandon Handfield of Lebanon, John Nicholas Handfield of Indianapolis, IN; and Marie Ruth Handfield of Boston, MA. She also had 11 great-grandchildren: Kaley, Regan, Paige, Jessica, and Ashley Kasacek, Jordan and Colton Bender, Will, Griffin, Sarah, and Robinson Handfield. Besides raising her children, she worked for over twenty years at the Mansfield Training School. She also worked at University of Connecticut, Windham Hospital and Abbey Manor. She was a 50 year member of the Franklin Grange and the Franklin Congregational Church. She loved walking, crocheting, making puzzles and babysitting her great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Colby Melanec, Louise Breault, and Elizabeth Barr, a brother Ernest Chamberlin as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her dear friend Kay Bonor and devoted niece Diane Manning. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Franklin Congregational Church, Franklin Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Gager Cemetery on Ward Lane, Franklin, Connecticut followed by a celebration of Thelma's extraordinary life at the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, 5 Tyler Road, Franklin.
