Teresa James Obituary
Teresa H. (Lemieux) James
Today, December 11, 2020, it is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of someone we called Mom and Nana. Teresa Helena (Lemieux) James was born on September 19, 1927 in Willimantic to Blanche (Vaillant) and Alfred Lemieux. She was raised with her brother Gerard and sisters Annette and Evelyn, who are all now deceased. Teresa graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1949 and the very next week on June 25th she married the love of her life, Carleton James. He was always ‘Carlie’ to her and they were married for over 54 years, until his death in 2003. She missed him every day since.
Teresa’s husband Carlie built their beautiful home for her in Willimantic, where they raised their two children, Scott and Carlene. Teresa was known for being an immaculate housekeeper and her yard was always well maintained and manicured. She was a teacher for over 38 years and taught at several local schools; Lebanon Elementary, F.R.Noble Elementary and St. Mary- St. Joseph Catholic School. Teresa taught countless children over the years, igniting the spark for learning. Teachers have never been more appreciated than during this time of pandemic school closings.
Teresa enjoyed spending her summers with her family at their home in Dennisport, MA. She loved shopping on the Cape a bit more than she cared for the beaches. She was punctual and you could set your clock by her daily schedule, from the time her laundry was hung on the line to the time she set out on her daily walks. Teresa took long walks around Willimantic and was well recognized by many as the lady that walks.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church for over 93 years. She was very devoted to her faith and generous to her church. Teresa’s faith was important to her, as was her family. She will continue to be with us through each of them.
She leaves her son Scott and his wife Doreen of Columbia, a daughter Carlene Gaudette and her husband James of Woodinville, WA. She leaves a grandson Joshua James of Hebron, granddaughter Jessica Berry and her husband Daniel of Woodinville, WA, and grandson Jeffrey Zbikowski and his wife Gina of Los Angeles, CA. Her great-grandchildren, Joshua James Jr, Logan and Charlotte Berry, and Cora Zbikowski were blessed to have such a giving Nana.
In memory of Teresa, thank a teacher for all that they do for our children.
There are no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to: Saint Mary Church, 46 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT 06226. For an online memorial guestbook please visit
