Tatania Juzak

JUZAK, TATANIA, 83. Born in Willimantic, Connecticut, on August 1, 1920, Dr. Juzak died in New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, on Thursday, January 15, 2004, after a brief struggle with cancer and complications from chemotherapy. Dr. Juzak leaves behind her beloved sister, Mary, of Willimantic, Connecticut. Her beloved oldest sister, Anne, preceded her in death only six months ago. Dr. Juzak is also survived by her loving niece, nephews, and three generations of cousins. A licensed psychologist in New York and Connecticut and a diplomate in clinical psychology, Dr. Juzak graduated from Willimantic State Teachers College in 1942 and received her M.A. in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1944. She was awarded a Ph.D. in Psychology from New York University in 1953 and completed her post-doctoral training in psychotherapy in 1965. During her long career, Dr. Juzak had worked as a psychological consultant with the New York State Bureau of Disability Determinations and the New York State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. She had been Chief Psychologist with the Westchester County Medical Center and was also affiliated with New Rochelle Guidance Center and Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital. Dr. Juzak served in the Women's Army Corps as a psychologist during World War II. Up until the time of her death, she continued to work part-time as a psychological consultant. A passionate traveler, Dr. Juzak most recently visited Burma just three months ago. She was equally passionate about New York City, having resided in the same apartment on the upper East Side for four decades. Dr. Juzak was an active member of the 92nd Street Y, where she swam regularly. She was also a member of the James Beard Foundation, and often treated guests to luncheon events at The Beard House. Dr. Juzak will return to her hometown of Willimantic where she will be interred with her beloved parents, Constantina and Pafnuty. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:15 to 11:00am at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 414 Valley St. Willimantic, with the Funeral Service begining at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery, Windham. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 414 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT 06226.
