SYLVIA ANN CROSBY
Sylvia A. Crosby, 89 of Ashford, CT passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 17, 2026, after a long illness. Sylvia was born on May 22, 1937, to the late Ford G. and Neva B (Holmes) Crosby and grew up in Manchester, CT. The family moved to Ashford in 1952 to Misty Meadows Farm where Sylvia owned and showed many horses and ponies. She graduated from Windham High School then studied Business at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Sylvia married Michael R. Chebro (former husband/deceased) and moved to Eastford, where they started their family, eventually moving back to Misty Meadows to raise their children. She was employed at UConn Storrs as a payroll clerk and retired in 2002. Sylvia periodically taught horseback riding and trained horses. She later sold the farm and lived in upstate New York before returning to Connecticut. Sylvia belonged to the CT Horse Council, CT Valley Driving Council, 4-H and American Driving Society Clubs and did freelance writing for horse-oriented publications. She attended many horse driving events in New England. Sylvia is survived by son Michael Chebro and his wife Jeannie of Woodstock CT, daughter Melanie Chebro and her husband Joseph Uhouse of Willington, CT and son Brian Chebro and his wife Rebecca of Ashford, CT. She is also survived by granddaughters Ashlyn Chebro and her husband Ryan Rupert of Bolton, CT and Alexa Chebro and fiance Ben Oddo and great grandson Samson of Preston, CT. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Creamery Brook and Pierce Memory Care/Nursing Units of Brooklyn, CT for the wonderful care, kindness and compassion bestowed upon Sylvia.
Calling hours are from 10:00 to 12:00 on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT. Burial will follow at Woodward Cemetery, Route 44, Ashford, CT.
