Susan D. Shenefield, 46, of Storrs, beloved wife of Danny L. Shenefield, died Saturday September 19, 2009 at Windham Hospital in Willimantic with her husband Danny and sister-in-law, Pamela Long at her side. Susan was born Jan. 27, 1963 in Norwalk, CT, daughter of William Brown and Carol Isabel Meyer Brown. Susan and her mother moved from Canterbury to Storrs around 1975. Susan resided in Storrs for the remainder of her life. Susan was a graduate of E.O. Smith High School, Storrs, CT. After completing high school, Susan spent many years in agility and obedience competitions winning many top awards. Later she was a breeder and trainer of top rated AKC poodles. Susan also helped with the training of service dogs under the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation. Susan gave up the Fidelco Guide Dog program in 1996 to provide care for her mother over an 8 year period until her mother, Carol Brown succumbed to Lymphoma in 2004. Susan lived her entire life never losing her love and wonder of nature and country living. Susan at an early age could be found by the rivers and brooks near her home looking for her little friend, Sally the salamander. Susan was well known for stopping traffic on a busy road to help a slow moving turtle get safely to the other side of the road, for feeding migratory birds and rescuing sick squirrels Susan being of Irish descent with beautiful long flaming red hair, loved any music that was Irish. Susan leaves behind her faithful companions, her weimaraners Zoe & Grace, and 2 cats, Taylor and Jewels. Susan was preceded in death by her father, William Brown and her mother Carol I. Brown. Susan is survived by her loving husband, Danny L. Shenefield, 2 brothers Bradley Brown and his wife Ruth and Robert Brown; two beloved nieces, Sarah Brown and Kristen Clark and her husband Gary; Shenefield and Thompson in-laws, nieces and nephews who never got the time to fully know the wonderful person that Susan was.
