Susan M. Rood

Susan M. Rood, 73, of Windham Center, CT passed into eternal peace early Tuesday morning, August 9, 2016 after a 7-month battle with cancer. Susan was born on July 21, 1943 in Willimantic, CT to Emilien Morin and Irene (Vertefeuille) Morin. Susan grew up in Willimantic and was a graduate of Windham High School. She was married January 23, 1965 to John Rood of Windham Center, CT where she lived and raised her three boys, Christopher, Michael and Matthew. She was a wonderful, loving Mother who always encouraged and supported her son?s dreams and aspirations. Susan was very kind, friendly and personable. She can be remembered best by the many long, sometimes late-night conversations held with family and friends. Susan loved to sing songs around the house to her boys, always making them laugh with her quirky, improvised lyrics. She also had a spirited sense of humor, which led to the endless, affectionate nicknames for her boys. She was proud of her home and loved spending time making memories there with family. Susan drove a school bus for 23 years serving the Windham Public School system. She loved driving her bus and loved the many children she safely transported over the years. Susan always had a smile on her face and always took the time to know the children and their parents. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John A. Rood who passed away in 1998; her grandson Evan John Rood who passed away in 2015. Susan is survived by her brother, Roger Morin and sisters Madeleine Harrington and Charlene Bowen; her son Christopher Rood and his two children Abigail and Jack; her son Michael Rood and his son Ashton; her son Matthew Rood and wife Jill and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. The family will receive friends and relatives, Friday, August 12, 2016 from 6:00 ? 8:00 p.m., at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic, CT. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 46 Valley St. Willimantic, CT. with interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
