Feb 1, 1973 — Jun 30, 2026
Sung Yeul Park unexpectedly passed away on June 30, 2026, at the age of 53. A celebration of his life will be held at Covenant Chapel at a later date. Service information will be shared with family and friends once arrangements have been finalized.
Born on February 1, 1973, in Seoul, South Korea, Sung Yeul began his career as a field application junior engineer. On June 6, 2002, he married the love of his life, Song Suk Cho, and together they embarked on a new chapter, moving abroad so he could pursue his graduate studies at Virginia Tech. During those seven years, they welcomed their children into the world while Sung Yeul remained dedicated to his education, ultimately earning his Ph.D.
In 2009, Sung Yeul joined the faculty at UConn as a professor of electrical engineering, where he served with distinction until his passing. He was known as a kind, patient, and understanding professor who left a lasting impression on countless students and colleagues. Beyond the classroom, he generously gave his time mentoring engineering competition teams, advising student organizations, and encouraging those around him to reach their fullest potential. His willingness to put others before himself was evident in every aspect of his work and life.
A man of deep faith and lifelong curiosity, Sung Yeul found great joy in reading and sharing meaningful conversations with others. His faith was a defining part of who he was, and he faithfully organized Bible studies, book clubs, and gatherings that brought people together through learning, fellowship, and friendship. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed and valued.
He was also a proud member of the Korean American community, dedicating his time to organizing gatherings that fostered connection and support among Korean American students and professors. Through these efforts, he built lasting friendships and strengthened his community.
Above all else, Sung Yeul was a devoted husband and father. No matter how busy life became, he made family his greatest priority. Whether planning camping trips, organizing holiday gatherings, or simply spending quality time together, he created memories that his family will cherish forever.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Song Suk Cho, and their four children: Youngjin Daniel Park, Sungjin Caleb Park, Soojin Sharon Park, and Taejin Joseph Park. To his family, he was a source of unwavering love, strength, wisdom, and support. His compassion, generosity, and gentle heart will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sung Yeul will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, students, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Sung Yeul’s life at Covenant Chapel once arrangements have been finalized. Service information will be shared with loved ones at that time.
