Steven Murphy Obituary
Steven W. Murphy, 54, of Jewett City, CT passed away on October 7, 2023. He was born in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Richard and Marie (Boucher) Murphy.

He was a graduate of Windham High School. Steven was full of adventure; his imagination had no limits. He had a passion for jewelry making and breaking. He always had a bag in his pocket full of treasures that he wanted someone to fix. Steven liked to tell stories, there was always a little bit of truth to his stories. He liked to make maps, to describe where something was that he left years ago. He had his own gift of fashion. He loved clothing, he liked to keep up with what is in style with his own twist. Steven was a collector of sneakers, hats, trinkets, CDs, etc. He enjoyed the Special Olympics when he was younger. He had many hobbies: concerts, thrifting, bowling, outdoors, crafting, and car rides where he gave directions.

Steven always looked out for others. He had his own struggles through life which taught him to have care and passion for others. He liked to volunteer and collect items for animals, and food and toiletries for those in need. He was funny, he was known for his one liner "Murphyisms".  Steven never forgot a face, he remembered everyone he met.

He is survived by his sister Denise Houman and her children Ryan Murphy, Matthew VonHusen, and Rachael Houman, brother David Murphy and his daughter Janie Murphy, uncle and godfather William Murphy, uncle Walter Murphy, several aunts and cousins, and his many close friends.

His friends were his family, Steven had many people who've worked with him throughout his years that he still spoke about years later. He had two best friends, Dan Nagle and Mack Ruggs. Dan was Steven's voice of reason; he had an ability to calm stressful situations. Mack was his non-official big brother and looked out for his well-being. Steven attended the Futures program in Norwich. He looked forward to going to work every day, even in his last days he did what he could to go. They loved and supported him for many years. Steven resided with Key Human Services in Griswold, where he leaves behind his housemates and friends. They provided the services where Steven could live the best life to his abilities.

Special thank you to the staff at Smiliow Cancer Center in Waterford, Futures Program & Key Human Services for the care and support you have given to Steven throughout the years.

In memory of Steven, thank a veteran. Steven always did when he had an opportunity.  He would collect the grocery carts from handicap spots, so they had a place to park. Be kind to others, people with special needs have feelings too. In the words of Steven, it's not our fault we were born different, be kind.

Steven’s graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Windham.
