Steven Richard Calkins

ARRANGEMENTS FOR SUNDAY AUG. 28TH HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. NO PUBLIC VISITATION OR SERVICE WILL BE HELD. Steven R. Calkins, beloved husband of Bonnie M. Calkins of Hampton, CT, died peacefully at their home on Sunday morning, 8/21/2011. Born in Barton, VT on 5/24/1948 to the late Richard and Kay (Goss) Calkins, Steve enjoyed a successful 35 year career with SNET, served 2 years in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War, contributed 13 years to the Scotland Board of Education and served as Treasurer of the Willimantic Methodist Church. Steve touched the lives of many as he played his guitar, sang in choirs, fished, and laughed with his friends and family. He generously gave of himself through his handyman expertise, woodworking, glass creations, and eagerness to assist in any crisis. He enjoyed travelling with his wife in their camper, and frequenting the "Hampton Mall" where he dropped off and carefully selected priceless items to share with his family. In addition to his best friend and loving wife, Steve is survived by his treasured children and grandchildren, Christy Calkins & Dan "Moose" Ferrington and their son Cooper; Brett & Barbara Calkins, and children Tony and Chloe; Summer & Jim Kelly and children Jayden, Trisha and Shantal, his cherished sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula & Ed Calderwood and Barbara & Michael Dagney; the stepchildren he loved as if they were his own, Elizabeth & Nathan Sartain and Justin & Kristine Smith; many nieces and nephews he adored, his 4-legged fur children Troy, Bella and Sophie, and all the dear friends he has known throughout his life. Arrangements scheduled for Sunday Aug. 28th have been cancelled. No public visitation or service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the March of Dimes of VT in Steve's name based on the incredible support this organization provided to him during his battle with polio.
