Stephen Istvan Petro, 89, of Willimantic, formerly of Bridgeport, died Saturday Aug. 24, 2002 at the Roncalli Health Center, Willimantic. He was born Nov. 27, 1912 in Nyiribrony, Hungary, the son of Istvan and Julia (Fintor) Petro. He immigrated to the United States in 1938 and became a citizen in 1943. Mr. Petro was retired from Sikorsky Aircraft and had previously owned and operated Petro's Market on Albion St. in Bridgeport. He was an honorary consistory member of the United Church of Christ in Bridgeport. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Margit (Kish) Petro of Willimantic, a son and daughter in law Kenneth and Patricia Petro of Middletown, DE., 2 daughters; Barbara Lyon of Fairfield and Dr. Marjorie Petro of Mansfield Center, 6 grandchildren; Barbara and Bethany Lyon and Kristen, Tricia, Joshua and Ashley Petro, a great grandson Jared Currie, 2 sisters; Mari Papp of Budapest, Hungary and Gizella Puskas of Bakta, Hungary and several nieces and nephews in Hungary. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte 195) Willimantic on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:30pm with the funeral service beginning at 2:30.
