Stanley Sanford Jones Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 24, 2010 at Hartford Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1930 to Stanley Sr. and Ida (Escancy) Jones in Washington Maine. Along with his parents Stanley was predeceased by his siblings, Sanford, Geraldine Chandler, Arlene Nye, Annie Gagnon and Ernest. Stanley went to work at the early age of 16 for the University of Connecticut in Storrs where he worked for 43 years before his retirement. Stanley enjoyed Square and Round dancing, yard work and plowing snow for others in the local neighborhood with his cherished John Deere Tractor. He loved to return to his home state of Maine for vacations and visits. His love for good clothing showed in how well he was always dressed and will live on in the people he helped dress with his ties and shirts. He loved his family dearly and will be missed everyday by all that he has touched. He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years Mildred Jones of Storrs, two children Cindy Schaffer and her husband Harvey Daggett of Ashford and Dale Ann Jones and her life partner Dave Kwaczala of Sacramento California. Stanley's greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the beloved Poppa to two grandchildren, Bonny Jo Bergin Young and her husband Mike Young of Brooklyn, CT and Shane Schaffer of Storrs and five great grandchildren, Kylee and Devin Bergin, Ethan, Julia and Lexie Young. He also was the proud uncle to several nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday Dec. 29th between 5:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, intersection of Rte. 32 and Rte. 275 in the Eagleville section of Mansfield. Interment will follow in Pink Cemetery, Mansfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Stanley's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 or donor's charity of choice.
