Sophie Landeck Jenkins Sophie L. Jenkins, 83, of Ridge Road, Chaplin, died Friday, January 20th at her home. She was born February 23, 1922 in Chaplin, the daughter of the late Michael G. and Christine K. Landeck. She graduated from Windham High School in 1939 where she was vice president of her class and Editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Willimantic State Teachers College in 1943. On February 13, 1948, she married William A. Jenkins. He died in 1999. She received her Master of Arts from the University of Connecticut in 1952 and her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Connecticut in 1960. She was an elementary school teacher in East Hartford, a teacher and principal in Hampton and a superintendent with the Bureau of Rural Services in the 1950s. She joined the faculty of Willimantic State College (now known as Eastern Connecticut State University) in 1962 and retiring from there in 1989 as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Upon her retirement, she continued to volunteer her time with the Alumni Association at Eastern. She also served on the Region 11 Board of Education in the 1970s. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law William L. Jenkins of Chaplin and Michael R. and Julia Jenkins of Chaplin, two grand daughters, Chelsea and Andrea, a step-grandson, Kaluska D. Ohlund of Coventry, a step-granddaughter, Annastasia Delano-Ohlund of East Haddam, a step-great grandson Liam Delano-Ohlund of East Haddam and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Katherine King, F. Pauline Little, Louise Kalkman and a brother George Landeck. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Rte. 195, in Willimantic. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the Sophie L.
