Sophie "Sue" Golan

GOLAN, Sophie "Sue" (Petkavich) Sophie P. Golan , 83, passed away on Tuesday (April 28, 2009) after a short illness. Sue was born in New Britain, CT on July 7, 1925, the daughter of the late John and Aksama (Veranius) Petkavich. She was a 1943 graduate of New Britain High School and a 1946 graduate of New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing. She was dedicated to the care of her patients at New Britain General Hospital where she worked as a registered nurse in charge of floor C-5 for many years and later was in charge of Central Supply at the hospital until her retirement in 1989. Sue was an avid gardener, quilter and volunteer with many organizations. Sue is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Henry E. Golan of Columbia, CT.; her two sons; Walter Cedar of Madrid, Spain; Paul Cedar and his wife Belinda of Avon, CT; grandson Derek Cedar of Manchester, CT.; granddaughters Nicole Cedar of New York, NY and Kellye Cedar of Avon CT. In addition, she will be missed and remembered by her niece, Vicky Carlson and nephews, John Vitkauskas, Jerry Vitkauskas, Charlie Fiedler, Gary Fiedler and many other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for calling hours on Friday, May 1 at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rt. 195), Willimantic CT. from 6-8 p.m. with a Mass on Saturday May 2, at St. Columba Catholic Church, Columbia, CT (Rt. 87/66) at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Beckish senior Center in Columbia.
