Sonya Fagan Obituary
Sonya Lee (Darling) Fagan, 84, of Manchester, Connecticut passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022. She was born in Bangor, Maine on October 29, 1938 to her parents, Ralph and Doris Darling.  Sonya attended schools in Bangor, Maine and Willimantic, Connecticut. She met her husband, the late David Fagan, Sr, when they were teenagers. They married in 1956. Sonya and Dave celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to David’s passing in 2011.

Sonya was employed at the A&P in Willimantic, Connecticut for many years. Upon David’s retirement from Brand-Rex, they ran three successful businesses including the Cozy Corner Diner in Brooklyn, Connecticut: LaBranches Market in Chaplin, CT. and Clark’s Restaurant in Willimantic, CT. They were named the Business of the Year during their tenure at LaBranches Market. Sonya and David enjoyed the relationships they developed with their employees and their loyal customers. It gave them great pleasure to serve and be a part of their community.  Sonya volunteered with the Elks Club and always looked forward to putting on dinners for the community through that organization.

Sonya and David enjoyed traveling and spending time together. They took great pleasure in their yearly trips to Bermuda, vacations in Quebec City and their summer vacations on Giant Neck, CT. Sonya was an active member of the local Red Hat Society.  She and Dave enjoyed spending time with and entertaining their family and friends.

Sonya’s son Gary Fagan and her sister, Mona Booker, were Sonya’s fiercest advocates and loving caregivers during the last couple of months of her life, particularly once she was hospitalized in October 2022. In addition to her parents and husband, Sonya was predeceased by her brother, Jack Darling and her beloved sons, David, Jr. and Douglas Fagan. Sonya is survived by her son, Gary Fagan and a special daughter in law, Joanne Fagan, David Jr.’s widow. She was the proud Nana of four grandchildren, Christopher (Jaime) Fagan; Amy (Stephen) Avery; Jennifer Johnson; and Gary Fagan, Jr.  Sonya enjoyed her six great grandchildren, Lorelai Rice; Zoey, Liam and Emma Avery; Gwen Bloom and David Johnson. Sonya is also survived by her sisters with whom she shared a close knit and loving connection, Mona (Roland) Booker and Donna Miles and a much-loved cousin who was more like a sister, Noreen Kent. Sonya will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the many friends Sonya made over the years and those in her senior citizen housing facility in Manchester, including Nora and Yvette, who provided Sonya with rides, cooking and support. Sonya was a stylish, vibrant, outgoing, fun and loving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00am at the New Willimantic Cemetery in Willimantic, CT. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.potterfuneralhome.com .
