Shirley Rueb

October 29, 1930 — September 19, 2012

Shirley (Bednarz) Rueb of Coventry, died on Wednesday September 19, 2012 after a recent battle with cancer. Born October 29, 1930 in Windham, she was the daughter of the late John and Mabel Bednarz. After graduating from Windham High School in 1948, she went to work at ElectroMotive Manufacturing Co. It was there that she met her husband, the late Charles Rueb. She devoted the next several years to maintaining a home and caring for her children. She served people again when she returned to work, working as a nurses' aide, elderly companion and waitress. Shirley was a person with few needs - her home, her family and friends, and her garden were most important to her throughout her life. She had a natural ability to connect with those around her, and was a sincere friend to all. Her last three years were spent at Orchard Hill Estates, a home that provided her with the happiness of friendships and her own beautiful gardens. Although her needs were few, her interests were many. She was intrigued by most anything and would acquire new interests through new acquaintances. She enjoyed everything from swimming to yoga to plants and flowers to antiques and collectibles. She read books covering subjects from famous paintings to cities abroad. Shirley touched many lives. She leaves 4 daughters, Diane Parks of Ashford, Nancy Rueb of Coventry, Laura Grenon of Colchester, and Corinne Rueb of Mansfield. She also leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her family, Shirley leaves her lifelong friend, Jean Gilligan, her neighborhood friends at Orchard Hill Estates, and the many people who touched her life along her journey.
