Shirley June Koren

Shirley June (Horner) Koren, 84, died Mon., Dec.13 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born June 13, 1926, in New London, daughter of Thomas and Marion (Elliott) Horner. She lived in Groton for 40 yrs. before moving to Ashford in 2002. Service to God and her church family was her life's focus. She was a member of Huntington St. Baptist Church in New London for 50 yrs. where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Pioneer Girls' Leader, and in the Ladies' Service Guild. After she moved to Ashford, she transferred her membership to the United Baptist Church of Ashford. During her stay at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation she was president of the Tenants Association and enjoyed participating in recreation department activities, skits, field trips and singing in the Songbirds group. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Gregory Turansky of Ashford, with whom she had a wonderfully precious bond. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat. Dec.18, at the United Baptist Church of Church of Ashford, Route 44, Ashford. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Mon., Dec. 20, in Jordan Cemetery in Waterford. There will be no calling hours.
