Shirley F. Fichandler, 78, of Storrs, died Thursday February 20, 2003 in Windham. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Philip D. Fichandler and daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Kramer. July 4, 2003 would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Born in New Haven, she lived for the last 50 years in Storrs. She was a longtime and very active member of the Mansfield Senior Center where she tutored Korean and Chinese students. She is survived by two sisters, Lillian Alpert and Sophie Hennes and a sister-in-law, Gitty Kramer. Her late brothers were Jerome and Coleman Kramer. She was blessed by a large and very close, loving family that included her children Mark and Patrizia Fichandler, Sherry and Michael Howard, Sandy Faivre, Karen and Steven Kaplan, Bruce and Mary Fichandler, Joseph and Ann Fichandler, fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley will always be remembered for her warmth, generosity, love, plants and the wonderful bears and dolls she made for her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mansfield Senior Center, 303 Maple Rd. (off Rte. 275) Storrs. Burial will follow in the Hillel Burial Society Cemetery, Mansfield.
