Shirley Douglas Obituary
Shirley M. Douglas, affectionately known as GG, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 22, 2025, in Providence, RI. Born on January 30, 1935, in Eastford, CT. She spent most of her life in Thompson, CT where she raised her children, and later moved to Pascoag, RI where she lived out the remainder of her life. Shirley's warmth and laughter brought joy to all who knew her throughout her 90 years.
Shirley's life was marked by her loving dedication to her family. She was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Franklin D. Douglas, her four brothers, one sister, and her cherished grandson, Timothy McKay Brosious Jr. Her legacy continues through her sister, Louise Boutin. of Rhode Island, her children, Cindy Brosious, of Rhode Island, Marie Paradis, Gloria Douglas, John Douglas, all of Connecticut, Eunice Durand of Massachusetts and Paul Douglas of Texas. She was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to many great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
Shirley was known for her vibrant personality as a bartender at the French Club in North Grosvenordale, CT, and for her involvement with the Thompson Speedway. Her interests were as lively as her spirit; she relished her walks, cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoyed the thrill of the casino, and was an enthusiastic bingo player.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her as loving, funny, and friendly. Her presence was a light in the lives of friends and family, and her memory will continue to inspire laughter and love in the hearts of those she touched. Shirley M. Douglas will be deeply missed, but her vivacious spirit will live on through the countless memories she created with those around her.
