Sharon E.
Loomis
Feb 22, 1937 — Aug 15, 2026
Willimantic, CT
Saturday
11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Eastern time)
Sharon E. Loomis, 89, of Willimantic, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Willimantic on February 22, 1937, to the late Alfred and Frances (Schlehofer) Racicot.
Sharon was reunited with the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Loomis, Jr., who passed away on September 25, 2012. Sharon and Bob were married on October 13, 1956, and shared nearly 56 years together. Their life was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories, including polka dancing, gardening, travel, and time spent with their many friends and family members.
For many years, Sharon devoted herself to what mattered most to her—raising her three daughters and caring for her family as a stay-at-home mom. Later in life, she began a career outside the home, working as a housekeeper at The Card Home, and then as a custodian at Eastern Connecticut State University, where she worked until retirement. Sharon also proudly volunteered with the Women’s Auxiliary of the Eagleville Fire Department, supporting the department where Bob was a life member.
After retirement, Sharon enjoyed having more time for the people and activities she loved. She especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and treasured time spent with her grandsons, of whom she was incredibly proud. Gatherings around the table were among her favorite times, whether eating a delicious meal, playing cards, dice games, rummikub, or dominoes. There was always laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of great memories being made.
Sharon will forever be remembered for her kindness, beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and warm, welcoming nature. She had a special gift for making everyone feel at home. Anyone who entered her home was welcomed with open arms and treated not simply as a guest, but as family. Her generous heart and genuine love for others touched the lives of many and will remain a lasting part of the memories she leaves behind.
Sharon is survived by her three daughters, Elaine Whitehouse and her husband, Charles; Beth Lane; and Melanie Spencer and her husband, Samuel; her three grandsons, Christopher Whitehouse, Justin Lane, and Brian Lane; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She leaves behind a family who will carry her love, laughter, and cherished memories with them always.
In addition to her beloved husband, Bob, Sharon was predeceased by her siblings, Gerald Racicot and Robert Racicot; her son-in-law, Peter Lane; and several close family members and friends who were dear to her.
Though Sharon is no longer with us, the warmth she brought into every room, the kindness she showed to everyone she met, and the love she gave so freely will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She welcomed everyone as family, and she will forever be loved as family.
May she rest peacefully in the arms of the love of her life, reunited once again and together for eternity.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Storrs Cemetery, North Eagleville Road, Storrs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – CT Chapter, P.O. Box 88540, Carol Stream, IL 60188, or to a charity of your choice.
