We celebrate the life of Samuel Jackson Harvey, affectionately known as Jack, who was born on July 31, 1934, in Washington, D.C. He passed away at home in Chaplin, Connecticut, on September 29, 2023.
Jack was born to Samuel Hugh Harvey and Sarah Jackson Harvey, who have preceded him in death. He was an adored father to his two children, Mark Harvey and Paula Spangler. Jack's family expanded to include his daughter-in-law Celina, and his grandchildren Sean Harvey, Megan Spangler, Valerie Harvey, and Melissa Bretado and her husband Michael, as well as great grandchildren Gabriel and Ezekiel Bretado.
Jack earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Maryland. Jack was also a proud Army veteran, serving his country with honor and distinction.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jack was fluent in French. His linguistic skills were a testament to his intelligence and his curiosity about the world.
Jack had a deep and abiding interest in history and politics. He was an avid reader and an engaging conversationalist, always ready to delve into a lively debate or share his knowledge with others.
Beyond his intellectual pursuits, Jack was a fervent animal advocate and nature conservationist. His love for animals was evident in his advocacy work, and his commitment to conservation was a testament to his belief in the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations.
Jack's life was marked by his intelligence, his adventurous spirit, and his courage. His life was a testament to his belief in lifelong learning, his commitment to service, and his love for his family.

Jack’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 9:30am to 10:30am at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. His funeral service will begin at 10:30am, with burial to follow at Storrs Cemetery.
