Ruth Eleanor (Tracy) Blake

Ruth Eleanor Tracy Blake, 93, passed away on December 27th, 2016, at Merry Heart Assisted Living Center in Succasunna, NJ. She was born on January 28th, 1923, in Springfield, MA to Peter and Eva Nilan Tracy. Ruth grew up in Willimantic, CT. She graduated from Windham High School and worked as a secretary. In 1946, she married John Edgar Blake. She later earned degrees from Willimantic State Teachers College (Eastern Connecticut State University) and the University of Connecticut. Ruth enjoyed many years of teaching in Coventry and later in Lebanon High School. An avid and accomplished golfer, Ruth played at both the Windham and Pautipaug Country Clubs. She was a member of the Connecticut Women?s Golf Association and the Windham Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. In addition, she was a member of the Windham Board of Education from 1965-1981. Ruth cared deeply about her family and showed this by baking delicious pies and cookies whenever she could. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Gail Blake Watson and her husband, James; her grandson James and his wife Elizabeth; her granddaughter Elizabeth, and her husband, Anand; as well as six great grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters, Eva Goeken and her husband William; Janet Harrington and her husband Patrick; her brother Alfred Tracy and his wife Ann; as well as her sister-in-law Natalie Tracy. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her husband; her parents; her brothers John, James, Peter, Frederick and George; and her sisters, Jeanette Tracy, Marie Martin and Margaret Sullivan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) in Willimantic, CT. There will be a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Friday, December 30th, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
