Ruth E. Jones, of Storrs, died at Windham Memorial Hospital on Monday, Sept 20, 2004. Born Nov. 4, 1919 in Willimantic and raised in Storrs, Ruth was the daughter of Roy and Corinne Jones. She attended Windham High School and received her teaching degree from Eastern Connecticut Teacher's College. In WWII she served in the Women's Reserve in the Marines at Camp Pendleton in motor transport. From 1967 to 1981 Ruth worked for the Near East Mission Board of World Ministries teaching English as a second language at the American Collegiate Institute in Izmir, Turkey. Upon her retirement, she returned to Storrs and volunteered until she was unable to very recently. She taught English as a tutor, helper in the Mansfield schools, and to mother's of students in Storrs. Ruth was also a poet , a writer and a member of the Storrs Congregational Church choir and bell choir. Ruth is survived by her brother Lawrence E. Jones of Woodstock and his wife Gloria, three nephews, a niece and several very special friends. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 10:00am at the Storrs Congregational Church, corner of Rte 195 and North Eagleville Rd., Storrs.
