Ruth Bosworth Filip, 97, of Mansfield Depot, died at her home on September 12, 2011. She was born May 29, 1914 in Springfield, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Lester and Minnie Rawson Bosworth. Ruth moved to Mansfield Depot in 1940 to work as an Assistant Professor in the newly established School of Business at The University of Connecticut, retiring as Emeritus Professor in 1978. Ruth earned a B.S. from Drexel Institute, studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, and completed her Ph.D. at New York University. For many years, she and her late husband Charles, who predeceased her in 1980, traveled extensively. Ruth was a constant supporter and patron of the arts at the University of Connecticut and throughout Connecticut. She particularly enjoyed classical performances at von der Mehden and Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts. Until recently, Ruth took pleasure in playing her piano daily. Ruth valued and celebrated her friends and caregivers, who became her family. Her Depot home, where she had lived since 1940, became the center of activity for loving care and joyful times. She offers one last "Cheers!" to her devoted family who brought her love, joy, and peace. Among others, they include Tom Bergeron, R.N. from VNA Hospice, Lauren Bragdon, Lu-Ann Brown, Eileen Butler, April Holinko, Janet Jones, Ashley Lambert, Becky Lehman, Pat Patenaude, Dan Patrylak, Carol Santa Lucia and Jim Stebbins. Ruth's interest in others, the twinkle in her eye, her sense of humor, and positive spirit will be very much missed by all who knew and loved her. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Eastern CT, 34 Ledgebrook Dr., Mansfield Ctr., CT 06250. For an online memorial guestbook, please visit
